Graduation 2025!

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science held our annual Graduation Ceremony for the DPT Class of 2025 on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025. The wonderful day was celebrated by faculty, students, family, and friends at the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Leadership Hall.

The Dean's Office Address was delivered by Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and Medicine, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Advancement, and Associate Dean for Physician Scientist Training Mary-Claire Roghmann, MD, MS.

Jane Kroh Satterfield Endowed Professor in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science and Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science Victoria Marchese, PT, PhD, FAPTA, presided over the ceremony. Dr. Marchese is pictured here (L-R) with Dr. Mary-Claire Roghmann.

The ceremony featured Doug Savin, MPT, PhD, as the Keynote Speaker.

Dr. Savin is a recently retired faculty member from our Department where he taught from 2011 to 2024. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he also served as Director of Student Affairs.  Dr. Savin is also a proud dual alumnus of the University of Maryland Baltimore’s School of Medicine from both 1997 and 2011.

As a practitioner, Dr. Savin long held a special interest in motor control, how aging and disease can affect our ability to perform safe, functional mobility, and advancing the science that supports effective rehabilitation techniques to improve the safety and mobility of older adults.

Before earning his master's in physical therapy and Ph.D. in Physical Rehabilitation Science from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he was a graduate from Towson University with bachelor degrees in both mass communication and music.
