Introduction
The post-professional Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy (DScPT) program is designed for licensed physical therapists to upgrade and enhance their clinical and/or managerial skills. This program draws upon the existing academic strength of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, with a history of physical therapy education since 1956. There are several compelling reasons for entering the program:
-
High clinician interest in upgrading their educational credentials and clinical skills to maintain professional viability within the health care system;
-
Existing faculty expertise in physical therapy courses and excellent School of Medicine interdisciplinary links;
-
Changes in the delivery of health care services requiring greater independence of physical therapy clinicians;
-
Increasing demand for effective and efficient physical rehabilitation services as the population ages.
