Florence Kendall Scholarship
The Florence Kendall Scholarship is available to exceptional incoming students who apply for admission into the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
The award was established in 2004 to honor Dr. Kendall and acknowledge her incalculable contributions to the practice of physical therapy and the growth of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science.
To be considered for the Kendall Scholarship, a student must possess a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade-point-average and must:
Submit the DPT Application for Admission and all required documents.
Document exceptional community service and provide an essay that describes the service.
Participate in the scholarship interview.
A limited number of scholarships are available, award amounts vary and the scholarship is non-renewable. The application for admission, all documents required for the admissions review and the scholarship essay must be received no later than December 1.
Donald J. Hobart Scholarship
Students may apply for this award upon completion of the 1st year of the DPT program. Applicants must demonstrate compassion and leadership in academics and extra-curricular activities. Recipients receive $2,000.
Pekar-Abell Award
Nominees are selected upon completion of the 1st year of the DPT program and are determined by PTRS pediatrics instructors and the Clinical Education staff. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in the field of pediatric PT and confirm an intention to work in pediatric PT. Nominees are interviewed and selected by the Pekar-Abell Committee. Recipient receives $1,000.
Federal Grants, Loans and Work-Study
The University of Maryland Office of Financial Aid can answer questions concerning the federal aid process. Federal financial aid includes grants, low-interest loans and work-study.

Maryland residents may apply for grants, scholarships and need-based financial aid through the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) - Office of Student Financial Assistance.
